A one-hour documentary that investigates how Australia’s state borders were drawn up and the impact those decisions had on land, people, and culture. Hosted by Ray Martin.
I was tasked with creating the show opener and 26 different animated maps to demonstrate how borders changed over time, as well as Ray Martin’s locations on satellite maps. To set the scene, I used historically accurate props in the shots - items Captain Flinders would have used to create a map of Australia. I also mapped an early 19th-century map onto a 3D model, which was tricky as it used the Mercator projection. To complete this project, I designed a method for converting Mercator to Equirectangular projection.

I used artificial intelligence for the first time on this project to help with my workflow. I used Midjourney to quickly generate some ideas to present to the client. I described in detail an image I had in my mind and the AI-generated the images you see here. Based on that rough concept, I created a scene in 3D.
